Maryam Moody, LCSW

I hold a master’s degree from Smith College School for Social Work, where I trained in psychodynamic therapy. This means I look to your past (childhood) for insight into the problems you’re facing in the present. Another approach I use is ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy), which helps us align actions with values.

My therapeutic style is warm, direct, and collaborative. I bring both curiosity and radical acceptance to sessions, along with quite a bit of humor. You can expect to laugh, to be deeply heard, and to be received with empathy.

Why Broken Cup?

“One day [Buddhist teacher] Ajahn Chah held up a beautiful Chinese tea cup. ‘To me this cup is already broken. Because I know its fate, I can enjoy it here and now. And when it’s gone, it’s gone.’ When we understand the truth of uncertainty and relax, we become free.”

—Jack Kornfield, The Wise Heart (emphasis added)

This story illustrates both the sorrows and the delights of impermanence. There’s grief, but also gratitude, in knowing that the cup will eventually shatter. Every moment with it is precious.
